Join Active by Nature as they hike to Dana Common with Michael Tougias, author of "History and Explorer's Guide to Quabbin." Learn interesting facts about the Quabbin Reservior and what was once known as the Swift River Valley. There will be a stop off for lunch at the quaint Petersham Country Store, and a visit to the Swift River Valley Historical Society.
Hiking portion of trip: During your trip you will learn basic historical information about the reservoir and how it became known as the accidental wilderness. Your hike into Dana Common will be easy but lengthy, on a flat paved surface for approximately 3 miles, or 2 hours, round trip. Along the way your guide will share with you several points of interest about the people who once lived in the Swift River Valley and the sacrifices they made. We also encourage you to explore the things that might be of interest to you along the way.
