Working to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife.
Founded in 1896, Mass Audubon works to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. The largest conservation organization in New England, Mass Audubon has over 100,000 members, cares for 32,000 acres of protected land, maintains a network of 43 wildlife sanctuaries, and does extensive education and advocacy work.
While Mass Audubon has no official sanctuaries or nature centers in the North Quabbin region, the organization has worked with a generous family in Wendell to establish the Wetmore Woods Wildlife Sanctuary (contact Mass Audubon about access rules) and also owns an extensive tract in Petersham and Barre abutting land owned by Harvard Forest and a parcel called the Conner’s Pond Tract, owned by The Trustees of Reservations and open to the public.
Mass Audubon welcomes members and donations and can work with landowners seeking to protect their property. Visit the organization’s website for details.
