Skyfields Arboretum

1461 Old Keene Road, Athol, MA
(978) 248-2043

The home of Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust and a showcase of native plants. Acres of open fields fringed with woodland and laced with trails, plus a stewardship demonstration forest across the road.

Description:

The historic Willis farmstead at Skyfields, with its beautiful stone walls, is now the home of Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust and a showcase of native plant species that serve the needs of wildlife. Ten acres of open fields laced with loop trails teem with birds, butterflies, and dragonflies, and the woodland fringe connects to the much larger (440-acre) Lawton State Forest, itself a treasure house of woodlands and ponds. Across Old Keene Rd. another 30 acres of Skyfields serves as a demonstration of the methods and values of forest stewardship.

Directions:

From Rte. 2, take Exit 17 and follow Rte. 32 north. Just after Rte. 32 turns right and crosses bridge, bear right and then left onto Chestnut Hill Ave. Go 1/4 mile, bear left onto Old Keene Rd., and continue 1-1/2 miles to Skyfields, on right. Main parking lot is beyond building.
