Description:

As the name implies, the Farm School is both farm and school at the beautiful Sentinel Elm Farm, recalling a magnificent elm that stood for over 200 years on the land. The farm includes about 40 acres of open land and 90 acres of woodland; the working section includes vegetable gardens, an orchard, a sugar bush, and a dairy, as well as facilities for cows, pigs, goats, and oxen. Organic produce from the farm is sold in markets and a coop group. (Call for information.)

As a nonprofit education center, the Farm School welcomes contributions to support its many programs: multi-day, hands-on farm experiences for middle-school students during the school year—a program that has become a national model; the Chicken Coop School, a one-room home-school cooperative for seventh and eighth graders; and weeklong summer camps for middle and high school students. The Farm School also offers Maggie’s Farm, a training program for adult future farmers (the name honors a former owner who protected the land with an agricultural preservation restriction), and is a venue for programs offered by other organizations with a compatible mission.
