Growing up at the base of Mount Greylock, Mary Wigmore learned to love the forest there. The freedom to enjoy nature on this scale shaped her future career choice. As the owner of Wigmore Forest Resource Management since 1994, Mary manages 3,000 acres in the North Quabbin Region and 15,000 total acres of property in western Massachusetts.
After receiving a B.S. in Forest Management, Mary worked for the New England Forestry Foundation from 1981 to 1994. Once in business for herself, she developed a holistic approach to forest management, looking at the entire ecosystem. She strives for minimal impact and efficient site restoration with her timber harvest projects. Mary feels that forests with multiple layers, diverse species, and trees of all ages provide unique economic and ecological benefits.
Wigmore Forest Resource Management offers a full range of services in timber sale administration, forest resource management planning, financial analysis, municipal watershed management, and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) mapping.
Mary recently completed a watershed resource management plan on 3,800 acres for the Town of Westfield. This was a rewarding experience for her as these efforts will shape the City of Westfield's drinking water quality protection program and will have a direct positive impact on the quality of people's lives.
