Quabbin Gate 36

State Forest Rd., Petersham, MA

A gate to shore walks along the Quabbin Reservoir, accessed through the Federated Women's Club State Forest.

Description:

Gate 36 is accessed through the Federated Women’s Club State Forest. After parking at the T intersection, walk east to the shore of Quabbin Reservoir. At a fork in the road, go either direction; both roads lead to shore walks and possible sightings of eagles, loons, or other birds. The one to the right heads north, eventually connecting with Gate 35. The one to the left heads south; it turns inland after about ½ mile, and when it splits, the left-hand extension heads up Soapstone Hill.

Directions:

From Rte. 2, take Exit 15, and follow Rte. 202 south to Rte. 122. Turn left and continue about 4 miles to forest entrance on right, just after the Petersham town line. Continue on State Forest Rd. to parking area on right.
