Otter River State Forest & Lake Dennison Recreation Area

Baldwinville State Road (Rte. 202), Winchendon, MA
(978) 939-8962

Swimming and boating in lake or river, exploring the forest, camping—this area offers many delights.

Swimming and boating in Lake Dennison, camping on its shores or on the shores of Beamon Pond, canoeing the Millers River to King Philip Rock, exploring the forest—this area is indeed a gem. With three habitat types—oak/hickory, northern hardwood, and pine—the 4,000 acres of forest are home to diverse wildflowers and birds. Otter River State Forest was among the first acquired by the state in the early 20th century, and Lake Dennison is part of the Birch Hill Dam lands owned by the Army Corps of Engineers but managed by the state. Parts of the area were developed during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

From Rte. 2, take Exit 20. Turn right onto Baldwinville Rd. and right again onto Rte. 202N. Follow 202 to park entrance on left.
