Wonderful displays of birds, mammals, and rocks. Description:Founded in 2000, the Millers River Environmental Center is both an information center for visitors and residents and a collaborative center for environmental program development. The Center is managed by the Athol Bird and Nature Club and has changing displays of local birds, mammals, rocks, and minerals, as well as a nature store and a natural history library. There is no entrance fee, but donations are appreciated. Several environmental groups have offices at the center, and many use its public meeting spaces. The Center and its partners sponsor a wide range of exciting programs including an annual Outdoor Experience in late winter and a River Celebration in spring; public hikes, canoe trips, and garden tours; bird, wildflower, and mushroom outings; and courses and conferences in butterflies, dragonflies, forestry, weather, and more. Again with its partners, the Center also sponsors training for volunteer habitat monitors, scientific studies of the region’s ecosystem, and environmental restoration projects.
