Photo: Swift River Valley Historical Society Swift River Valley Historical Society40 Elm St., New Salem, MA Preserving the memory of the four towns lost to the construction of the Quabbin Reservoir. Description:Prescott, Dana, Enfield, Greenwich, and parts of New Salem now lie beneath the Quabbin Reservoir. Preserving the memory of these towns and the lives lived there, celebrating the quiet valley—that is the mission of the Swift River Valley Historical Society. Artifacts and memorabilia displayed in several historic buildings kindle the imagination—an Indian dugout canoe found in a local pond, a circa 1920 firetruck, train station signs from the “Rabbit Run,” a replica of a schoolroom, a four-seater outhouse (now unused!), a triplets cradle, and a host of other household and farming objects. Paintings and photographs of forever-gone scenes line the walls. The towns may be gone, but interest in them is very much alive. Directions:From Rte. 2, take Exit 16 and go south on Rte. 202. After crossing into New Salem, take the second right onto Elm St. Contact:
