The timber frame is a classic New England style of home construction, with roots in the architecture of Western Europe from before the Middle Ages. Many people are drawn to the more open architecture and the beauty of exposed timbers. Even though the details of the joints are hidden inside themselves, the grace and strength of this form of architecture provides a sense of home more than any other New England building style.

Tom Musco moved to Royalston in 1978 and began building timber frames, an interest he discovered in a beautiful timber-frame barn in Petersham. The majority of his oak, pine, and hemlock timbers are harvested locally and sawn at Hubbard Forest Industries in Royalston.

Each timber frame is custom designed with the homeowner. Tom prepares the joints in his shop, and then assembles the frames on site in just a few days. Over the past twenty years, he has built more than 120 timber frames, in every New England state and even as far away as Alaska!
