"Each Kallisti marimba is individually crafted from carefully selected woods to enhance tonality and is custom tuned to exacting standards."

Marimbas are among the oldest musical instruments known to world history. Their soothing tones and resonant qualities have been providing an avenue of expression to the world since people first reflected upon the rhythms and wonders of life and felt the need to make music.

Kallisti instruments are examples of the ancient art of marimba making at its finest. Each Kallisti marimba is individually crafted by Bruce Scherer in Orange from carefully selected woods, such as maple, birch, cherry, and padouk, to enhance tonality and is custom tuned to a Peterson model 520 stroboscope tuner to assure tone and pitch quality. Each and every Kallisti instrument receives a fine finish that brings out the distinctive qualities of the woods that are used.

Bruce Scherer began his career as a boat builder, but went in to business making marimbas in 1976 because he loved the sound and wanted the independence and control of being in business for himself. He works in his shop on Chestnut Hill in Orange and produces over 500 marimbas every year for world music enthusiasts all over the country. These beautiful instruments are sold in music stores, craft galleries, and catalogs and are played and enjoyed by beginners and professional musicians alike.

Kallisti instruments are available in several sizes and varied tunings such as diatonic, pentatonic and chromatic. Marimbas are easy to play and provide people of all ages with a wonderful musical experience that is both enriching and delightful to listen to.
